Overview

Surgery as a Considered Decision

Surgery is the right answer for some foot and ankle problems and the wrong one for many others. A surgical consultation exists to work out which - not to push an operation, but to assess your problem honestly and set out whether surgery genuinely offers the best outcome.

Consultations are led by Dr Mohamed Elbana, a podiatric surgical registrar in training toward podiatric surgery with the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgery. Straightforward minor procedures can be performed in-clinic within the registrar's scope; where a problem needs complex or major reconstructive surgery, we refer you to an appropriate specialist and help coordinate that pathway.

Full work-up

review of your history, examination and any imaging or previous treatment

Options weighed honestly

a fair comparison of conservative and surgical paths

Procedure explained

if a procedure fits, exactly what it involves and what it can achieve

The right pathway

minor procedures in-clinic, or referral and coordination for complex surgery

How It Works

What to expect.

01

Review and examination

We assess the problem thoroughly, including any imaging and the treatments you've already tried.

02

Honest recommendation

A clear view on whether surgery is warranted, and a conservative plan if it isn't.

03

Planning or referral

If a minor procedure fits the registrar's scope, we plan it in-clinic; if it needs a specialist, we arrange the referral.

04

Coordinated next steps

We help guide the pathway from decision through to procedure and follow-up care.

Common Questions

Surgical Consultations FAQs

Do I need a referral for a surgical consultation?

A referral isn't essential to be seen, but if you've been referred or have imaging and reports, bring them - they make the consultation as useful as possible. We'll advise on anything else needed for planning.

Will you recommend surgery?

Only if it genuinely offers the best outcome. Many problems are better managed conservatively, and we'll tell you honestly when that's the case. The consultation is about the right decision, not a default to operate.

Who would perform any surgery?

Minor procedures within scope are performed in-clinic by our podiatric surgical registrar, Dr Mohamed Elbana. Complex or major reconstructive surgery is referred to an appropriate specialist, and we help coordinate that.

What conditions might need surgery?

Recurrent nail problems, some bunions and toe deformities, certain arthritic joints and some tendon problems are examples. A consultation determines whether your specific problem is one where surgery helps and who should perform it.
