Surgical Insight, Used Judiciously
Having a surgically focused clinician on the team is what sets this pathway apart - but it doesn't mean surgery is the default. It means that when a foot or ankle problem might need surgical management, you have direct access to a considered, work-up-led opinion within a clinic that has already explored the conservative options with you.
The pathway is led by Dr Mohamed Elbana, a podiatric surgical registrar training toward podiatric surgery with the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgery. Straightforward minor procedures - such as recurrent nail conditions - can be performed in-clinic within the registrar's scope. Complex or major reconstructive surgery is referred to an appropriate specialist, with the work-up and coordination handled here.

How Different Problems Are Handled
The pathway is matched to the problem:
Recurrent nail conditions
definitive minor nail procedures performed in-clinic within scope
Bunions and toe deformities
assessment, conservative care and coordinated referral for correction
Joint and arthritic pain
work-up and, where surgery is relevant, referral to an appropriate specialist
Tendon and soft-tissue problems
conservative and injection-based options first, with referral where needed
What to expect.
Consultation and assessment
A thorough assessment, including imaging, to work out whether a problem needs surgical management at all.
Conservative options first
Where appropriate, non-surgical care is explored so surgery is a considered decision, not a first resort.
Procedure or work-up
Minor procedures within scope are planned in-clinic; complex cases are worked up for referral.
Referral and follow-up
For complex surgery we coordinate referral to an appropriate specialist and support your recovery afterwards.

Foot & Ankle Surgery FAQs
Do you perform major foot and ankle surgery in-clinic?
No. Only straightforward minor procedures within the registrar's scope, such as nail surgery, are performed in-clinic. Complex or major reconstructive surgery is referred to an appropriate specialist, with the work-up and coordination handled here.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
You can book a consultation to be assessed. If you have a GP or specialist referral, imaging or reports, bring them - they help with the work-up. We'll advise on anything further needed for your case.
Will surgery definitely be recommended?
No. Many problems are best managed conservatively, and we'll tell you honestly when that's the case. Surgery is only recommended, or referred, when it genuinely offers the best outcome for your condition.
Who leads the surgical pathway?
