Overview

Why Heel Pain Lingers

Most heel pain is plantar fasciitis, but not all of it. It can also come from the heel bone, the fat pad, an irritated nerve or the Achilles insertion. When treatment isn't matched to the actual cause, heel pain drags on for months - which is exactly why so many people arrive here having already tried the basics.

We start by pinning down the diagnosis, often with in-clinic diagnostic ultrasound, then work through a staged plan. Simple measures first, and where those aren't enough, we escalate to the advanced therapies we deliver in-house - so you're not left stretching indefinitely with nothing changing.

How We Treat It

Depending on your diagnosis and how long it's been present, the plan may include:

Loading and rehab

targeted strengthening and load management, the backbone of recovery

Orthoses and footwear

offloading the painful structure and correcting contributing mechanics

Shockwave therapy

for stubborn, chronic cases that haven't responded to first-line care

Injection therapy

ultrasound-guided injections where inflammation is blocking progress

Hands-On Techniques That Support Recovery

Tight, overloaded calf and foot muscles often add to heel pain and hold back progress. Where that's part of the picture, we use remedial and deep-tissue massage to release restricted tissue, and dry needling to settle trigger points and muscular tension. These techniques won't fix heel pain on their own, but they can make loading and rehab far more effective.

How It Works

What to expect.

01

Pin down the cause

We diagnose exactly what's driving the heel pain - often with diagnostic ultrasound - because the treatment depends on it.

02

Start the plan

We begin with loading, offloading and footwear changes tailored to your diagnosis and daily demands.

03

Escalate if needed

If it's stubborn, we bring in shockwave or injection therapy, delivered in-house without separate referrals.

04

Review to resolution

We track progress and adjust, aiming for lasting relief rather than a brief dip in symptoms.

Common Questions

Heel Pain Treatment FAQs

Is my heel pain plantar fasciitis?

It often is, but not always - and that matters, because other causes need different treatment. Our first job is an accurate diagnosis so we're treating the right thing.

I've rested and stretched - why hasn't it worked?

Rest and stretching alone rarely resolve stubborn heel pain, because they don't address the load and mechanics driving it. A staged plan of loading, offloading and advanced therapy where needed is far more effective.

How long will it take to improve?

Many cases improve over several weeks with the right plan, though long-standing heel pain can take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeframe once we've assessed how chronic and severe it is.

Will I definitely need shockwave or injections?

Not necessarily. Many people improve with loading, orthoses and footwear changes. We reserve shockwave and injections for cases that genuinely need them, and it's reassuring that they're available in-house if they do.
